HONOR released the HONOR X7c, a new entry-level smartphone with an SRP of Php 8,999. It has been touted with “all-around water and drop resistance” but is it enough for it to be a good choice in that price segment, with other competitors such as the Transsion trio of brands(TECNO, itel, Infinix) saturating that price segment? Or perhaps, HONOR is bagging towards to popularity of its previous blockbuster hit – the HONOR X9b?
HONOR X7c: An Overview
The picture above is the full set of features of the HONOR X7c, not bad right? For an entry-level smartphone, you will have a very durable smartphone that is also waterproof, with decent and capable specs. At first glance, it is remarkable for an entry-level smartphone but, the catch is its price and its competitors. Seen below is the specs page of the HONOR X7c:
The specs on paper are not bad for the most part but as I have said in the first paragraphs, the price is a little bit off. Even if you have managed to snag this on a sale, like for example, around Php 6k? It isn’t good, especially if you want a bang-for-the-buck device for a very inexpensive price.
The caveat is, if you want a durable phone then this is a good pick. When placed alongside other durable phones such as OPPO’s offering and the like, you only have to choose the design that you want, do not mind the specs, just go for the design.
HONOR X7c: Is it a Good Recommendation?
Is the HONOR X7c a good recommendation for an inexpensive but decently capable device? No for the most part. But if you are a HONOR fan, and you need the added durability and water resistance for your entry-level smartphone, AND you also like the design, then this is a good choice. However, if you are somewhat of a gamer, or you want to prove your money’s worth…do not buy this smartphone.
There are other options out there, other smartphone brands that are pumping out budget-friendly smartphones that have insane specs for their price, you just have to do your research diligently and watch tech YouTubers, reviewers, and the like. Remember: In this economy, buying a smartphone that can last you for years is a good thing, but buying a smartphone without being annoyed every day by its performance is another.
HONOR X7c: Points for Improvement
We do not have an entry-level smartphone that has both decent specs and durability features yet, so maybe that is a good point to consider. This is a good start for HONOR, the HONOR X9b specifically.
It would be good if the hardware had more oomph, especially with this overly saturated entry-level smartphone segment in the Philippines. Maybe a Helio G99 or Helio G100 is better? So that it will also have a decent performance when gaming. A man can only hope. But yeah, give it more of that juice HONOR, and people will be flocking for a durable smartphone that will also have smooth usage.
