Samsung is gearing up to rival Huawei’s tri-fold Mate XT with an innovative foldable device of its own. Reports suggest the Korean tech giant is developing a tri-fold smartphone that unfolds differently, offering added protection for the flexible screen when folded.
Limited to an initial production run of around 200,000 units, the device is expected to debut in the third quarter of the year—likely between July and September. This timeline aligns with Samsung’s annual foldable launch schedule, hinting that the tri-fold could make its grand entrance alongside the much-anticipated Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 in July.
Production for the tri-fold device is set to begin in the second quarter, between April and June. Once unfolded, the device’s display will reportedly expand to an impressive 9.9 to 10 inches, making it a serious contender in the foldable market.
Samsung is also introducing a total of four foldable devices this year, including the Galaxy Z Flip FE, designed to offer a more affordable entry point into the foldable lineup. Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Fold7 might ditch its digitizer—a move aimed at slimming down the device as Samsung competes with ultra-thin foldables like Honor’s Magic V3.
While the chipset for the tri-fold remains a mystery, rumors suggest the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 could feature the Exynos 2500, which didn’t make it into the Galaxy S25 lineup due to production challenges. Meanwhile, the Flip FE may opt for the more budget-friendly Exynos 2400e.
Samsung’s bold push into foldable innovation this year is sure to keep the competition on its toes. Keep an eye out for more updates as the launch date approaches!
