Facebook’s “Your algorithm” lets you describe what you want to see

Facebook’s Your algorithm lets users describe their interests to influence Feed and Reels recommendations. Meta announced the feature on Oct. 13, alongside new ways to give feedback on individual posts.

The update gives users a more direct way to explain what they want to see. However, its value will depend on how well Facebook responds to those preferences.

What Facebook Your algorithm changes

According to Meta’s announcement, users can add and manage topics through Your algorithm. After someone selects “Interested” or “Not interested” on a post, Facebook may ask follow-up questions where they can explain in their own words what they want more or less of.

Meta says large language models help interpret those requests. It also says recommendations can change within the same browsing session.

Those are the company’s descriptions of the system. TechPipino has not tested how reliably the controls change a feed or how long the effects last.

Where to look for the controls

Meta identifies the three-dot menu as the entry point. If Your algorithm appears on your account, open it to review the available topic controls.

For post-specific feedback, look for “Interested” or “Not interested.” Follow-up questions may appear, rather than show up every time.

A useful approach would be to describe a specific interest instead of a broad complaint. For example, someone researching a computer upgrade could ask for more PC-building content. This is an illustrative use case, not a tested prompt or a guaranteed result.

The announcement does not establish that every account has the same interface.

What remains unclear about rollout

As of Oct. 16, Meta’s announcement does not specify a Philippine release date, a minimum app version or a complete language list.

If the option is missing, the available information does not explain why. It would be premature to assume your phone is incompatible or that reinstalling Facebook will reveal it.

Likewise, a rollout announcement alone does not confirm access for a particular account.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find Facebook Your algorithm?

Look in the three-dot menu on a post. Availability on your own account still needs checking.

Does it turn Facebook’s algorithm off?

Meta describes combining written preferences with existing engagement signals. The announcement does not offer a switch to disable recommendations.

Will it remove every post about a topic I dislike?

The announcement does not promise complete removal. Treat the feature as a way to influence recommendations, rather than a guaranteed topic filter.

Why it matters

A clear preference can express something a click cannot: why a subject interests you, or why you want less of it.

The practical question is whether that extra context produces a more useful feed. That needs observation beyond an announcement. For now, the feature is worth checking when it appears, with expectations tied to what Meta has actually documented.
